What Psoriasis Really Is

Category: PsoriasisAnders Eriksson @ 4:04 pm

Have you ever heard about psoriasis and how people wish not to acquire it? The skin condition could be really hard to treat. But with the advent of modern medicine, treatment and cure could already be possible. You might be wondering what psoriasis really is.

To begin with, psoriasis is a noticeable chronic skin condition that usually results to thickening of certain or affected areas of the skin. Usual symptoms include scaling and redness. However, the appearance could still possibly vary depending on the affected skin part. In most cases, psoriatic plaques (scaly patches) occur in the skin covering the knees and the elbows. However, in some instances, it could also manifest in the scalp, and worse, the genitals (which make it sometimes mistaken as a sexually transmitted disease).

This skin disorder could be chronic recurring, which means it could re-appear and then vary in severity from small localized patches to major or complete body coverage. Psoriasis could also affect the toenails and the fingernails, also referred to in the medical industry as psoriatic nail dystrophy. In several cases, it could lead to psoriatic arthritis, which leads to joint inflammation. About 10% to 15% of psoriasis patients are found to have psoriatic arthritis.

The specific cause is yet to be ascertained. However, it should be noted that occurrence of this skin condition is mostly genetic or hereditary in nature. Thus, people without the condition could rest assured because psoriasis is not communicable or not infectious. There is no need to stay away from or prevent skin contact with infected people.

It’s really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of Psoriasis. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

There are two outstanding hypotheses explaining the occurrence of psoriasis. First, psoriasis is a skin disorder wherein there is excessive reproduction and growth of skin cells. Some experts consider the condition as a malfunction of the keratinocytes (a layer) of the epidermis. Second, some researchers believe psoriasis is an immune-mediated ailment wherein excessive skin cells reproduction is caused by the immune system itself. The second theory is basically backed by the observation that immune-suppressing medications could clear psoriasis plaques.

Who is likely to develop or acquire psoriasis? This is another interesting aspect about this skin condition. In reality, psoriasis could affect just about anyone, regardless of age. It could be detected on skin of unborn infants or even ageing people. In most cases, symptoms and manifestations of the condition begin during early adult years, while people 50 years and older also report prevailing cases. Some patients may have psoriasis all their lives. There are even cases when psoriasis gets unnoticeable.

There are new treatment products that have been approved for psoriasis treatment by no less than the US Food and Drug Administration. These products include Taclonex Scalp, Xtrac Velocity, and adalimumab drugs. Such treatments have different natures and ingredients, but regulators underline their possible effectiveness. Potency could vary from one patient to another.

People with psoriasis should also take note that there are several factors hat have been found to potentially worsen the skin disorder. These factors include stress, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, skin trauma, and several medications (like beta blockers, lithium, anti-malaria drugs, and interferon).

People should also know that there is no prevention measure against psoriasis, though people who may have relatives with the condition could be at greater risk of eventually developing it.

Parachuting Statistics on Accidents

Category: ParachutingAnders Eriksson @ 10:08 pm

Imagine the next time you join a discussion about Parachuting. When you start sharing the fascinating Parachuting facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.

Despite the lack of concrete parachuting statistics, misconceptions still surround both parachuting and skydiving. Many people believe that every year, there are a lot of individuals who die or get injured because of parachuting and they attribute a great number of reasons to these wrong assumptions.

There are only several reasons why parachuting accidents occur including malfunctioning equipment such as a canopy or a reserve canopy that did not open, collisions between jumpers, and difficulties during landing. Malfunctioning equipment is said to have claimed more lives than the other two major causes of accidents. However, operator error is the real culprit for most of the time.

For one, jumpers do not use just one canopy, instead they have a main canopy and second canopy which makes it almost impossible for jumpers to get injured because of malfunctioning equipment. Also, it is usually the problem of lines tangling rather than broken parachutes. On the other hand, difficulty in landing is usually contributed by factors that are often not subject to the control of the jumper.

Usually, accidents due to landing are attributed to poor estimation of how much longer jumpers have to take to perform maneuvers in the air. The third reason is largely due to jumpers deploying their parachutes so closely together.

It is easy for people to believe that novices are involved in more parachuting accidents than experts. But in reality, there are lesser chances that students will get injured or die during jumps. In fact, there are more expert jumpers who die each year in parachuting than students due to the fact that they tend to try higher altitudes which increase the risk of accidents.

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about Parachuting. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

According to studies, parachuting is considerably safer when compared with perceived lesser risky sports such as scuba diving or board surfing. In fact the average death due to parachuting is only 30 in every 100,000 jumps while there is a higher rate of 47 deaths in every 1000,000 scuba diving exercises every year. There is a higher rate of death in mountain climbing totaling to 50 deaths in every 100,000 and 67 lives are claimed every year because of hot air ballooning.

Interestingly history proved that parachuting accidents could be deterred even when it seems most impossible. There are so many accounts in the past, particularly in World War I and II, which proved that people jumped and met accidents while airborne and still managed to get through it with minor injuries. And there are those who miraculously survived the feat with only bruises.

In all there are 21 people who died during 2004 due to parachuting, 25 in 2003, 33 jumpers in 2002, and 35 people in 2001. Some of these deaths may have occurred due to jumping without parachutes.

Accidents in extreme sports are inevitable. However, it is surprising that people’s common perception is not always right. A sport may seem to be less risky but actually has higher risks than those sports that are more exciting and exposes people to more hazards.

Parachuting is among those sports that are perceived to excite the nerves because of thrill but actually has a lot lower percentage of injuring or killing people. This is just not another false perception; it is real and is backed by parachuting statistics.

Now you can be a confident expert on Parachuting. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Parachuting.

Bird Flu: A Chicken Raiser?s Nightmare

Category: Raising ChickensAnders Eriksson @ 5:46 pm

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about Raising Chickens? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about Raising Chickens.

Since its outbreak, every poultry owner had become aware of the consequences that can happen if this deadly disease is not prevented. Bird flu or what is also known avian (meaning bird) influenza (flu), is the number one killer of poultry chickens in Asia and some parts of the world.

Bird flu started in China and became a widespread disease for their chickens thus wiping out over millions of poultry businesses and dropping the chicken industry to a devastating point. The thing about avian flu is that, not only can it affect birds but also humans which makes the illness more dangerous to various lives. It can be passed from chicken to chicken, chicken to person, person to person, person to chicken, and so on. That is why authorities in the health sectors are taking this serious matter in their hands and are making strict surveillance.

Avian influenza is not just a disease underlying a typical cold. It is more than that. In fact, it can kill an entire poultry habitation within a week. If passed onto a person, it can be more lethal as a person can interact with hundreds of people in a day without even noticing that they have become the perfect carrier of the disease. Worse, this sickness is not a picky disease. It could affect everyone including children.

The incubation period, if passed to a human, is not exact but as record shows, it may take about three to five days from the exposure to the disease-causing virus. Till then, the person will experience signs and symptoms that are similar with the common cold like fever, cough, sore throat, and aching of the muscles. Sometimes, the only thing that could indicate if the person has bird flu is if they are having conjunctivitis.

If the person who was affected and has experienced the signs and symptoms stated above ignored the indications, it may lead to severity of the disease. The person now will start to experience viral pneumonia and eventually, acute respiratory distress which is the most common cause of deaths among bird-related diseases.

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:

But this pandemic crisis can be pretty much prevented if certain precautions are practiced if everyone who is involved will cooperate with the measures that were given out by the authorities.

Through thorough surveillance, WHO (World Health Organization) supports in eliminating the disease. Through this, they can trace the source of infection and track down those who were affected by the flu. They will confirm instances of the disease and how many deaths were known. Once WHO officials find out the extent of the disease?s proximity, they will contain the area under quarantine.

Those who are in the zone will not be allowed to go beyond it and those who wanted to enter will be prohibited. That is why the concerned officials must be responsible enough to bring in reliable data otherwise there would be miscalculations that can result to more chickens and people being affected instead of being saved.

With the word spread out all across the globe, the government is also having strict participation for the observance if there are any occurrences of the virus in their community. Residents are the one who have to be more watchful because they will be the one more affected.

Their communication and participation is the most important tool to evacuate the presence of this disease and make raising chickens safer to both chickens and owners.

How to Feed Fully Grown Ducks

Category: Keeping DucksAnders Eriksson @ 12:55 am

If you want to keep ducks as pets, you should invest in their proper nutrition. This is an investment that will pay off handsomely, not just in profits, but also with the fact that you will have very healthy pets.

Whether they are raised for livestock or for domestic purposes, ducks are great animals to have. However, they have special needs when it comes to proper nutrition. If you do not feed them with the right kinds of food, then they will not grow healthy. Duck malnutrition can cause several illnesses and can also be a fatal case. The wrong diet can cause your pet to discard more waste, making your cleaning a harder task. Before you throw some grains or birdseed to your flock, here is what you should know in getting the proper nutrition for adult or fully grown ducks.

Begin by preparing the feeding equipment, clean and sun-dry the surface of the feeder. If there are sharp edges, you can use duct tape to keep your pets away from any dangerous risks, and then hang the feeder in a safe place near the ducks? habitat.

Pick commercial duck feeds that has the suitable amount of protein that is necessary for your duck?s health. If your ducks are laying eggs, you should feed them with duck pellets which contain 15-20% protein. On the other hand, if they are non-laying, you can choose a pellet feed with 13-17% protein content. You should take note that too much protein can cause a health condition among ducks called as angel wing which causes the wing feathers to bond together. Inadequate protein in the diet can also cause a multitude of serious health problems, especially if your ducks are laying eggs. Thus, you should consider the condition of your pets before you give feeds with the appropriate protein content.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Keeping Ducks now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

Aside from protein feeds, you should also give your ducks some green diet composed of chopped vegetables. If your pets are constantly roaming around your farm, allow them to eat some weeds or grass in your field. When you feed your ducks, you should ensure that vegetables or greens are part of their daily food intake.

If your ducks need additional health supplement, you can give them minced hard boiled eggs, garden worms or corn. However, you should avoid giving your ducks whole corn kernels especially if they are still too young, since corns are hard to digest. Give your ducks enough cracked corns especially in the winter, when they need more carbohydrates and proteins. Cracked corn contains at least 50% of the protein they need.

Always give them water during their feeding time. They use water to help them swallow and digest the food. This is very important since lack of water can cause choking. Water is also needed for your pets to clean and groom their beaks and feathers.

Always keep their food fresh. If you think you need to change the food in their feeder because your pets are not eating them then do so, since duck feeds can easily spoil and turn the feeder into a healthy environment for harmful bacteria and microorganisms that can harm your ducks? digestive system.

Feeding Ducklings

Category: Keeping DucksAnders Eriksson @ 1:43 pm

When a duckling is at the stage where they would now be living under a brooder or a hen, you should ensure that they have quick access to food and clean drinking water, to do this, you will need special feeders and a water basin. Keep the containers clean, also make it a daily habit to clean and replenish their food and water dishes. You should find these items with a special design to avoid the ducklings from toppling over. If this happens, your ducklings can drown inside the basin as they are not yet accustomed to swimming.

Adult ducks use special oils when they swim in water. However, they can only do this skill when they are already about six months old. This special oil can be transmitted to the duckling from their mother, thus, if they are being brooded, they don?t have the means of getting this oil. Their feathers can easily get wet, and they can die because of pneumonia. Water containers with wire guards are also a great choice. Place the water containers over low, wire-guarded frames to keep them from getting inside. Also, this can decrease the mess they would make. Make sure to change the water containers with the suitable size as the ducklings grow.

In some farms, commercial producers have food pellets especially formulated for baby ducks. You should check with a supplier in your area for this. If the duck pellets are not available, serve your baby ducks with some chick starter first for at least 2 ? 3 weeks. Place the food on egg container flats or any other dish with coarse materials: smooth surfaced materials can cause leg injury, as baby ducks are very active and they can always slip on the material when the surface is wet. After the starting period, you can give them duck pellets or chicken grower. You can also mix cracked corn and chopped vegetables. Always have food available to your ducks and give them grits as they grow.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Keeping Ducks than you may have first thought.

Basically, ducks are easy to grow because they are durable and are not vulnerable to most typical bird diseases. The use of drug-enervated duck pellets is not necessary to boost their immune system. Very rare are additives that have been permitted for nutritional or medical purposes in duck pellets. Waterfowls such as ducks can be more sensitive to medications than other poultry. Improper use of specific medicated pellets designed for chickens can cause harm to ducks.

Most breed of ducks that are raised in the late spring and have access to green weeds in your yard basically are healthier. Although ducks are not as good foragers as geese are, they can eat some vegetables you may give and also, farm ducks are commonly permitted to roam the yard where they can find food. You can chop green feeds and give them to your ducks when they should be inside when there is a bad weather. Contrary to common beliefs, a water pond is not very important to raise ducks successfully.

Under marketing factors, Peking ducklings can be sold in the market when they reach 7 weeks. They can weigh 6-8 pound and have eaten 25-30 pounds of feeds. Rouen ducks kept under farm conditions can take at least 5 months to keep up with Peking duck weight. Muscovy ducks take rather longer.

There’s no doubt that the topic of Keeping Ducks can be fascinating. If you still have unanswered questions about Keeping Ducks, you may find what you’re looking for in the next article.

An Introduction To Psoriasis

Category: PsoriasisAnders Eriksson @ 9:35 pm

Are you looking for some inside information on Psoriasis? Here’s an up-to-date report from Psoriasis experts who should know.

Psoriasis is an unrelieved provocative non contagious skin and joint disease that affects our immune system. The white blood cells (T-cells) become over-stimulated and it commonly causes red crusty dry patches (also called psoriatic plaques or lesions) to emerge on the skin because of the excessive skin production. The skin reacts just the same with the fungus infection. Researchers believe that inheritance, atmosphere, and the immune system may also play a primary role in psoriasis.

If you have psoriasis it will affects your immune system results an abnormally hasty skin cell cycle and usually itchy and feel sore. The process of having psoriasis begins at the bottom layer of the epidermis, where keratinocytes are completed. Keratinocytes are juvenile skin cells that fabricate keratin, a strong protein that helps the structure of hair, nails and skin.

Generally, skin cells that are produced in the deepest layers of our skin make their way to the outside in just a week or less. They are full-grown, that sloughed off the skin, and replaced with novel skin cells from underneath. Our skin cannot get rid of these cells as much as necessary speed, so they fabricate up and doing, leading to chunky, dry patches, or plaques, silvery, crumbling areas of dead skin.

They usually rise in your elbows, feet, palms, legs, face wrists, lower back and knees but can also affect any area such as our scalp and genitals but overall it can also affects our whole body. Raising Chickens: Pros and Cons

Category: Raising ChickensAnders Eriksson @ 3:33 pm

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

There are so many reasons why someone would want or wouldn?t want a chicken in their backyard. There are debates about it and here are some:

1. Costs incredibly cheap.

When we say cheap, not only does the chicken itself count but also the maintenance of it all. Compared to keeping a dog or a cat for a pet, it is much cheaper to take care of a number of chickens most likely because they are not choosy when it comes to food. You can feed them scraps and table leftovers and they will happily gobble it up. With as little as $2 a day, you can spend on a bunch of layer mash.

2. You can get something from them.

Eggs. Meat. Ornament. Who wouldn?t want it? In terms of eggs, it is seldom that you encounter a chicken that can?t lay eggs. It is a good source of iron, which is good for the brain. You could either sell these eggs or keep them in your fridge. With meat, every part of a chicken can be eaten. Yes, every. In cases of those who don?t want to see their chickens go bye-bye, they raise them as pets and for exhibition purposes.

3. Low maintenance.

Unlike dogs who need everyday grooming and cats who need your undivided attention, chickens need none of those. You don?t have to bring them to your vet every once in a while to take shots and doses of vaccines. All you have to do is feed them and supply clean water every day. Their coops must be cleaned at least once a week or twice every month depending on the number of chickens that you own.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of Raising Chickens is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about Raising Chickens.

4. Fertilizers for free and an instant pest control agent.

These are the two things that chicken raisers love about owning a chicken. When you allow your chickens to roam around your backyard, it is in their nature to peck on whatever it is that catches their interest and their hunger. Chickens love anything that came from the ground most especially the ones that are moving. They eat insects, bugs, worms and the like. For them, these are special treats. Furthermore, it is in their nature to eradicate their internal wastes anywhere they please. But their poops are considered as natural fertilizers that the ground needs to grow plants and root crops in a healthy state.

1. They are not the best guard pets to have.

While chickens can coo and make familiar sounds, it is not in their nature to bite or coo on anyone they see who looks suspicious. All they can do is grow, eat, and lay eggs. They are also not the ideal pets you would want to have especially if you need a response like waggling of the tail or a purring sound.

2. Chickens are messy.

Indeed. Plus, their poop smells terrible that it can reach certain areas in your house. If you?re the type of person who doesn?t want to go through enduring hours of cleaning, chickens aren?t really the pets for you.

3. One for all, all for one.

Well, in terms of getting sick this is a con. Because when one catches flu, everyone gets it too. And if one dies because of that flu, it is expected that every single chicken living with that infected chicken who also got that flu is also going to die after a few days.

Sometimes it’s tough to sort out all the details related to this subject, but I’m positive you’ll have no trouble making sense of the information presented above.

What are Parachutes?

Category: ParachutingAnders Eriksson @ 8:14 am

Do you ever feel like you know just enough about Parachuting to be dangerous? Let’s see if we can fill in some of the gaps with the latest info from Parachuting experts.

Skydiving is now one of the most popular extreme sports in modern times. The thrill of free falling in the sky and landing softly on the ground is an undeniably adrenaline pumping experience. The most important thing about this sport is the parachute. Kids can make homemade parachutes with the right materials.

Having a real one is a totally different story. Parachutes have a long history and development. Thanks to several daredevils it is now much safer to use compared before.

Parachutes have been made of different materials through out its development. There are also different types of parachutes that have been used throughout history. Before you think of going for skydiving lessons you have to know what parachutes are to ensure your safety. If your parachute does not deploy the way it should, it will fatal for you.

The word parachute means against the fall. It is designed to slow the motion of an object. Normally it used by people to slow down their descent to earth or to other celestial bodies. It can also be used to slow down the descent of objects to the atmosphere.
They can slow down not just vertical but also horizontal deceleration. Drogue parachutes are used to slow down fixed wing aircrafts and drag racers.

If you don’t have accurate details regarding Parachuting, then you might make a bad choice on the subject. Don’t let that happen: keep reading.

They are have been made of different materials through the years. The very first one was made of a cloak with wooden struts. The parachute was conical shaped the same with Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches. Rigid parasol was used in China for entertainment. Modern designs are made of nylon that has “rip stop” and “Zero porosity” technology. Rip stop gives it a weave pattern which prevents it from tearing and ripping apart when used. The zero porosity technology prevents the air from passing through the fabric.

The first modern design was invented by Louis-SĂ©bastien Lenormand in 1783. At that time it was thought to be used as a means for getting off a hot air balloon. It was then used for military purposes in the 19th century. It was used by artillery spotters in World War 1 that were secured to observation balloons. In World War II they were used for surprise attacks by landing soldiers on the enemy line.

First modern designs where round and usually used by paratroopers when they are deployed by an aircraft. These are usually drag devices which means they are not maneuverable and provide no lift. These were replaced by square ones through the Advance Tactical Parachute System.

Another variation of the round parachutes is the annular and pull apex. It’s a round parachute with suspension lines to the campy apex. A fabric can be removed at the apex to open a hole that releases the air and provides annular geometry. A similarity to this is the ribbon and ring parachutes that were designed to deploy at high speeds. They have ring shaped canopies with a hole in the center to release the pressure.

The commonly used design today is the Ram-air parachute. They have parafoils that have the same capabilities as paragliders. They enable the person to control the speed and direction for a soft landing.

Ram-air parachutes are used for skydiving and recreational purposes. They also have reserves for emergency and are packed in such a way that will guarantee proper deployment.
